During my minor in Spatialisation Design at HKU, I delved into the design process, specifically focusing on the transitions involved. Over six months, I explored the importance of starting with thinking before making any design decisions.
As designers, we can take a simple impulse and turn it into a powerful idea. We do this by combining the impulse with various associations, expanding our thoughts about the subject and diverging. The subject becomes the widest part of the figure, encompassing the reason why we want to design something, how we plan to execute it, and the context in which it will exist. We must consider all these aspects to create a relevant design that fits into the larger world.
My motivation for this project arose from my desire to explain everything. As a designer, I believe that every step of the design process, no matter how logical, needs to be explained. We need to understand what we're doing, the impact it will have, and why we're doing it. This level of explainability is crucial to creating designs that are effective, impactful, and sustainable in the long run.
