The Covid-19 pandemic forced many people to cancel their travel plans and stay home during the summer of 2020. To combat the boredom and monotony of staying at home, the Thuisvakantie app was developed to entertain users in their own villages.

The concept of the app is simple but effective. By creating a competitive game that encourages users to explore their surroundings, the app motivates them to leave the house and go for a hike. The app guides users to less-visited but beautiful locations in their town, with new hiking routes unlocking step-by-step.

At each location, specially designed signage shows users the way. The signage is made of wood and has a raster cutout, allowing nature to grow around it. Through a QR code, users can confirm they visited the location, and their progress is tracked through the app.

The Thuisvakantie app provides a fun and interactive way to explore your hometown and discover new locations that you may have overlooked. It encourages users to get out of the house, breathe in some fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of their surroundings.
